Bound in a Nightmare
Gabbie slowly wakes up, she’s no longer on the restroom floor of the restaurant, she’s in a bed. She opens her eyes a little more and tries to look around. All she can see is a man in front of the window, he’s wearing a white bag coat and staring out the window. She grunts, she’s in pain, her head is pounding. She tries to move her body towards the man. “Don’t move, it will hurt even more”, the man tells her without facing her. He keeps looking out the window. “Where am I”, Gabbie whispers. “You’re in the hospital, you were hurt badly, but you are safe now. Nowhere to you for you now”, the man answers. He has a deep, kind of raspy voice. She recognizes the voice, but is unable to remember where she heard his voice before. Before she knows it, Gabbie drifts back to sleep. They must’ve put her on some meds which make her sleepy.
A short while, she wakes up again. The man in front of the window is gone. She tries to move, but can’t move her arms or legs. She looks down and notices her hands and legs are tied to the bed. She screams for help, but no one seems to hear her. She looks around in the room, the curtains in front of the big windows are closed, all the lights in her room are turned off, the only light in the room is from her heart monitor and the lights from the hallway. “Anyone, please help me!”, she screams even louder. She hears footsteps walking up to her room, but shortly after they stop. Gabbie sees the shadow of this person on the wall in front of her, they are close enough to her room for the light to create a shadow, but far enough away for her not to see their face. “What do you want from me? Who are you? Why am I here?”, she yells. A few seconds pass by. She lies in complete silence tied to her bed. The person walks away again. She looks around the room again, but it’s completely empty, besides her bed and some medical appliances. She pulls her left arm in hope to loosen the rope around her wrist a little, but without success. She starts crying. Suddenly a big flash appears from the outside of the room, followed by a big bang. It starts raining heavily against the window. Gabbie screams in fear, she has always been scared of thunder. A few seconds later another strike of lightning shows around the edges of the curtain in front of the window, followed by an even louder bang. Suddenly all the lights turn off and even the heart monitor shuts down. It’s pitch black in the room by now. Footsteps walk up to her room again, at a fast pace. Sounds like heels, it must be a nurse, is it a nurse? Maybe they can tell her why she’s here! They walk up to the bed where Gabbie’s tied to and stop in front of the bed. Suddenly Gabbie feels they place something on her chest, feels heavy and cold. Before she could even try to speak to this person, they walked away again, at the same fast pace as they entered her room.
Just when the person leaves the room, all the lights turn on again. Gabbie looks around and is in full panic mode. “Hello? What is happening?”, she shouts, but just like the last time, no one answers. She looks down to her chest to figure out what this person placed on her chest. It’s a big butcher knife. “What?!”, she gasps. She tries yet another try on loosening the ropes around her wrists, but it’s yet another unsuccessful try. She needs to get the knife, so she can free herself and escape, but she’s unable to do so without using her arms and hands freely. She starts thinking of a plan on how to cut herself free. Maybe if she moves her body up and down gently, she will be able to grab the knife with her mouth, and that way she might be able to cut herself loose. It sounds like an unbelievable plan, but she’s desperate now, any plan is a plan. Just when she’s about to move her body the footsteps come closer to her room again. The sound of the heels hitting the floor scares her by now. “Hello? Help me, please!”, she yells from her bed. The footsteps stop right in front of the open door of her room. The person walks in. A tall blonde lady in white nurse dress walks into the room. It’s a nurse! Gabbie starts crying in relief. “Please help me, why am I tied to my bed, please release me”, she tells the nurse with a shaky voice. The nurse stops walking, stands still a few steps away from her bed and tilts her head upwards, facing the ceiling. The nurse starts laughing dramatically. “Ooh… Gabbie… Gabbie, Gabbie, Gabbie. You are right where you belong. You’re not getting anywhere, not this time!”, the nurse replies and turns her head downwards and looks Gabbie straight in the eyes. Her eyes are evil but emotionless at the same time.
Gabbie’s tiers of relief quickly turn into tears of fear. The nurse walks up to her bed and grabs the knife. This is it, I’m going to die here, is all Gabbie could think of and she closes her eyes. The nurse starts laughing hysterically. “Here, you’re going to need this. Choose your next move wisely”, she adds to it. Gabbie opens her eyes again, the knife is now placed in her left hand. The nurse walks away, but before she reaches the door, she stops walking, turns around and looks at Gabbie. The same evil yet emotionless stare as before. “Oh, I forgot”, the nurse says while walking back to the bed. She pulls a knife and a syringe with some sort of semi-transparent fluid from her pocket. The nurse grabs her upper arm with a firm grip. She places the syringe on her bed and with the knife she cuts the rope from her left wrist. She doesn’t let go of her arm just yet. With her right hand she places the knife back in her pocket and grabs the syringe and sticks the needle in the vein on the backside of her arm. “You have about, let’s say, two minutes from now. Then you’ll fall asleep again. Again, choose your next move wisely, Gabbie”, she says while turning her back towards her and walks out of the door.
